9月5日（金曜）の「ウエルカム・パーティ」後の翌日の９月月６日（土）に日米の経済人や学識経験者らが一堂に会し，日米の民間交流拡大を目的とする第９回日米国際シンポジウムが札幌コンベンションセンターで開催された。伊藤 義郎大会長・主催（御手洗昭治 大会実行委員長）のもとに，初めての道内開催という事もあり，開会式ではキャロライン・ケネディ駐日米国大使のビデオメッセージが流され「将来のリーダー達，若者を迎えることは，両国の関係をより確かなものにして，次の世代に引き継ぐことにつながる。そのためにも今回の札幌・北海道大会の成功をお祈りしたい」と述べた。両国の協会の一層の交流推進に期待を込めたメッセージであった。
２０１４年11月６日（木）イブニング・レセプション開催（札幌パークホテル, ザ・テラスルーム）
この日には，北海道マサチューセッツ協会とHIECCとの共催で「第9回国際シンポジウムを振り返って」と題した報告会を兼ねたイベントが開催された。伊藤義郎の挨拶のあと，在札幌米国総領事館のセオドー・ディール領事が会場のスクリーンに映し出されたキャロライン・ケネデイ大使のビデオメッセージの解説を行い，若者代表達による「今大会をビジュアル・スライドを通しての報告」が行なわれた。特に９月に開催された国際シンポジウムには，都合がつかず参加できなかった協会の参加者，また北海道マサチューセッツ協会の関係者にとっては，ビジュアルに映し出された映像・資料に魅了された様子であった。再現された札幌・北海道大会のシーンや雰囲気が大変印象的であったとの感想が実行委員会に寄せられた。小林会員には映像やスライドの編集などにおいて大変お世話になった。この場を借りて御礼申し上げたい。
On November 6(Thu.) at the Terrace room in Sapporo Park Hotel, , as
a reflection of the 9th International Symposium of America-Japan Societies
held just about two months ago, members of the AJAHokkaido along with members
of Hokkaido/Massachusetts and HIECC organization had or put it atraightforwardly,
recaptured an opportunity of watching major selected scenes of the international
event. Theodore Diehl,Copnsul at the Consulate General of the United States
of America, Sapporo made opening remarks showing the video message of Ambassador
Caroline Kennedy enlarging upon the content of the video message right
after Chiar, Yoshiro Ito's welcome address. One thing which struck the
audience was uniquely prepared the symposium reports by the sdudent body--who
worked assiduously with members of the event section. Additonally, our
thanks should go to Mr. Kobayashi, a new member of the AJSH, who rearranged
and coordinated the film and slide section of the international symposium.
２０１４年13月13日（木） Ｎｏｖｅｍｂｅｒ１３（Ｔｈｕ） Ｔｈａｎｋｓｇｉｖｉｎｇ Dinner for the youth Generation
伊藤会長の計らいで，会長所有の札幌国際ビルの「国際ホール」にて，今回の「第９回日米協会国際シンポジウム」（上記の９月７日の記事と写真を参照されたし。）で多大な貢献をしてくれたヤング・ジェネレーション（高校生，HISの学生達，大学生達）５０人を招いて「サンクス・ギビング・ディナー」の集いが開催された。招待された学生達はむろん日米協会会員とボランティア関係者達も豪華にデコレートされた本場アメリカンスタイルののターキー料理，かぼちゃとリンゴ・パイ，クランベリ―その他を堪能した。 札幌幌京王プラザのシェフに感謝申し上げたい。参加者たちは，在札幌総領事館のジョエレン・ゴーグ主席領事によるアメリカの感謝祭の歴史と物語，その他，トーク・ショーや音楽の夕べを楽しんだ。フォーラムの最後は，小笠原はるの先生による「私には夢がある」の素晴らしい朗読で幕が閉じられた。
On Novenber 13(Thu.) at the courtecy of Chair Yoshiro Ito, youngstars--made
up of nearly 50 high school stuents, HIS students and college studnets
who contibuted to the 9th Intenational Symposium of America-Japan Society---
were invited to "Thanksgiving Dinner" at the International Hall
of Sapporo Kokusai(IntenationaL) building owned by Mr. Yoshiro Ito. Many
youngstars and the participants and the members of Hokkaido Nichibei Kyokai(the
AJSH) were fascinated by real American style Thanksgiving dinner---turkey
meat, turkey ham, pumpkin and apple pies, cranberry and other dpeacial
dishes prepared by a famous chef at Keio Plaza Hotel,Sapporo. JoEllen Gorg
lighten up the atmosphere telling the story and history of Thanksgiving.
High school students and college students, and several members of the AJSH
put on a wonderful talk show, a specail music performance, and the Forum's
finale was a marvelous poem recitation of "I Have A Dream" by
Prof.
Haruno Ogasawara.

２０１５年１月２２日(木）
札幌グランドホテル「銀扇の間」において『新春ニュー・イヤーズ音楽コンサート（新春！楽しい和・洋楽の調べ）』が開催された。お琴・味線・ピアノによるに「日本のわらべ唄」，ピアノ独奏による「豪華なるショパンの名曲」，また，ピアノ連弾による「日米のメロデｨに寄せて」の豪華なる新春を迎えるにふさわしい魅力ある演奏会があり，本協会のメンバーはむろんのこと北海道マサチューセッツ協会のメンバーたちも和・洋楽の醍醐味を味わった。ピアニストの斉藤まきこ子，渡辺美蕗さん，お琴と三味線担当の梅宮恵理さん，定久恵子さん，鈴木順子さんには喝采を送りたい。
On January 22(Thu.),2015, to celebrate the year 2015, the New Year's Music
Concert----featuring both traditional Japanese folk music by Japanse three-string
banjo called "Shamisen" and Japanese harp called "Okoto"and
Western style music songs
composed by Choin---- was successfuly conducted. The audience made up by
the AJSH,together with Hokkaido
Maｓsachusetts Society thogoughly enojyed the music performance. We 'd
like to take this opportunity to express our profound appreciation to Ms.Makiko
Saito, Ms.Miro Watanabe, Ms. Eri Umemiya, Ms. Emiko Sadahisa, and Ms. Junko

当日は札幌グランドホテルの「玉葉の間」において舟本秀男「財界さっぽろ」社長の『私のアメリカ駐在記録と日米の企業文化』と題したパワーポイントを使用した講演会が開催された。
舟本社長は，アメリカ滞在が長く，1980年から1990年代にかけてオハイオ州デイトン市，それにコカコーラの本社があり名映画『風と共に去りぬ』で有名なジョージア州のアトランタの国際企業に勤めた経験の持ち主である。舟本社長は，日本では考えられない事であるが，当時，ゴルフ場を兼ね備えた外資系企業に勤めていた関係もあり，世界的に有名なプロの女子ゴルファー岡本綾子ともプレーする機会があったエピソードなどもユーモアを交えながら講演を展開。また，後半には，ウォーマート社の創設者の経営方針や，北海道の発展に貢献した松浦武四郎はじめエドウィン・ダン，ホーレス・ケプロン，ウイリアム・クラークらについて大変興味深く、示唆に富む歴史を語って下さった。
Mr.Hideo Funamoto, President of quartearly magagine "Zaikai Sapporo"
was a guest speaker on March 19(Thu.) at Sapporo Grand Hotel. His presentation
revolving around his life experience stationing in Dayton,Ohio and Atlanta,
Georgia--the mecca of the Coca Cola Company and the site for the world-famous
movie "Gone With the Wind. Mr. Funamoto also provided us with his
views(gained during his stay in the U.S. in the middle of 1980s and in
the early 1990) on the differences of corporate cultures between Japan
and the United States working for NCR. Mr.Funamoto is a very lucky person
as he had a rare opportunity to play golf with the famous female golfer,
Ayako Okamoto while he was working in a firm which owned a golf course
in Ohio.His talks on history of Hokkaido introducing Takeshiro Matsuura,
Horace Capron, Edwin Dun, William S. Clark and others were instructive.
２０１５年５月１４日（木）グランドホテル「Ginsenの間」において本年度の総会が開催された。総会では，新たに副会長２名，加森公人氏(加森観光[株]代表取締社長），小池善明氏（札幌証券取引所理事長）,
新理事には，岩田圭吾氏（岩田地崎建設[株]代表取締役社長），佐々木康行氏（北海道コカ・コーラボトリング[株]代表取締役社長），真木洋子氏（着物の真木[株]代表取締役），また，新専務理事には，御手洗昭治氏（札幌大学教授）， 幹事には，吉田茂氏（SEA国際教育研究所所長）がそれぞれ選任された。午餐会のアトラクションには，北海道インターナショナル・スクール（HIS)の箭原顕先生とHISの合唱団がアメリカの名曲を披露して頂いた。HISのニール・クーク新副校長も今回の総会も参加下さった。
The General Assembly 2015 was held on May 14(Thu.) in Rm. Gin'sen at
Sapporo Grand Hotel. The major feature for the Assembly was the nomination
of new Vice Presidents---Mr. Kimihito(President of Kamori Kan'ko Tourism
Led. ), Mr. Yoshiaki Koike(Chairman of Board of Sapporo Security &
Finance. Besides the newly elected two Vice Presidents, the following new
trustees were also chosen. Mr.Kyosuke Hoshino(President of Asahi Inobex
Company), Mr. Keigo Iwata(President of Iwata-Chizaki Construction Company),
Mr. Yasuyuki Sasaki(President of Hokkaido ColaCola Bottling Company) and
Mrs. Yoko Maki(President of Kimono's Maki Companay). Mr. Shoji Mitarai
（Professor of Croos-cultural Negotiation at Sapporo Univeristy) was named
new Executive Director. Mr. Shigeru Yoshida(President of SEA Center) was
selected as a comptroller working with Mr. Minoru Endo. During the luncheon,
the music group representing Hokkaido International School(HIS) led by
the new music teacher Mr. Ken Yahara put on a wonderful music performance.
HIS's new Principal, Neil Cooke was also present at the General Assembly.
真中・中間 2015年7月 23日（木）札幌パークホテル(Terrace)において，カントリー・ウエスタン・ミュージックの分野で活躍中の道内を代表する「カントリー・ラインダンス・チーム」を迎えてのイブニング・レセプションが行われた。 本協会の会員で女性ラインダンス・チーム代表を務める杉淵章子さんはじめ，石井鳩子さんらが，ラインダンスの発祥地であるナッシュビル・テネシー州のミュージック文化などについての解説後，カントリーミュージックに合わせダイナミックなラインダンスをを披露して下さった。多くの参加者がアメリカ文化の音楽文化のジャンルの多様性を再認識した様子であった。
Right in the middle: The Hokkaido Country Line-dance Team put on a very dynamic performance
along with American country music on July 23 at Terrace Hall at Sapporo
Park Hotel. The Country Llinedance Team--led by Akiko Sugibuchi, a AJSH's
member,togather with Hatoko Ishii and other members---gave the audience
an opportunity to receognize diverse aspects of American music and dance
cultural traditions originated in Nashville,Tennessee.
２０１５年８月２３日（日）に北海道日米協会主催(HIECC共催・在札幌米国総領事館後援・伊藤組100年記念基金助成）の「サマー国際フォーラム」が札幌国際ビル８階「国際ホール」で開かれた。朝日新聞(8/24朝刊）にも掲載されたが，国際フォーラムには，オバマ政権のブレーンの一人とされるグレンS.フクシマ米国先端製作所上席研究員が「世界から見た日本，世界が求める日本」と題し講演を行った。若者のグループ・ディスカッションも行われた。 フォーラムには高校生，大学生から８０歳代までの１００名が参加。フクシマ氏は講演で「米国への留学が減少している。日本は内向きになっている」と指摘。日本が人口減少やエネルギー問題に直面するとい予測し，その解決には，女性，若者，外国人の力が必要」と訴えた。
翌日の８月２４日には，「ホワイトハウスから見た日本」と題して講演。北海道日米協会と札幌商工会議所の主催で１３０人参加した。
On August 23, "Summer International Forum 2015" was held at
International Hall of Sapporo Kokusai Bldg. under the auspices of the America-Japan
Society of Hokkaido(AJSH), co-sponsored by HIECC and supported by Consulate
General of the U.S.A., Sapporo, and also I00 the Itogumi Foundation. Glen
S. Fukushima--who attended the 9th International Symposium of America-Japan
Societies last year---was a guest speaker for the Forum. More than 130
participants ranging from high schools, unjiversites, HIS and the AJSH
members ----young & old---joined the forum . Mr. Fukushima's lecture
was enthusiastically accepted, and he also took part in group discussions.
"Welcome Party " was held at Keio Plaza Hotel.
The following day, Mr. Fukushima gave a talk on "Japan seen from
the White House" at Sapporo Chamber of Commerce co-sponsored by the
AJSH.
９月１２日（土）には，札幌グランドホテルにおいて，藤崎一郎会長（前駐米大使）をお迎えしての講演会を兼ねたイブニング・レセプションを開催。藤崎会長は，新たに設立された釧路日米協会の一周年記念記念講演・晩餐会と旭川日米協会における記念講演会の後，一年ぶりに札幌へ足を延ばされ「国際情勢を見の見方パート２」というタイトルで講演された。特に国際情勢を見据える上で重要である「力・時間・心理」について，大使時代の経験と実践と理論を基にユーモアも交え，分かりやすく解説され，参加者達とも交流された。
On September 12, Mr. Ichiro Fujisaki, President of the NAAJS, the former Ambassador to the United States visited Sapporo right after his visit to the America-Japan Society of Kushiro and the America-Japan Society of Asahikawa. His talk on "How to Observe and inteprite International Affairs" was warmly received. Those who attended the Evening Reception enjoyed not only his talk filled with a sense of humor,but also reunion .
11月１２日（木），札幌グランドホテルにおいて秋に赴任されたハービー・ビーズリー領事（広報・文化交流担当）が「私の異文化大変と国際理解」と題した講演をされた。ビーズリー領事は，高校時代には千葉県に研修プログラムで日本滞在したこと，またインディアナ大学時代には名古屋の南山大学に留学した経験もあることから，当時の異文化体験談，と異文化理解と留学の重要性について強調された。 また，フレッチャー法律外交大学院において「国際関係」で修士号を取得され，その後インドや中国の大使館で勤務した経験に基づき，外交と国際関係について持論を語られた。A
newly appointed Consul, Mr. Harvey Beasley was an invited guest speaker
for the November 12 Luncheon meeting. Mr. Beasley's talk centered around
his cross-cultural experiences he had gained during his visit to Chiba
when he was a high school student and while he was a college student at
Nanzan University in Nagoya. He also shared his thoughts and views with
us in regards to diplomacy and interenational relations on the basis of
his experiences he had not only at Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy,but
also in India, China and some other countries.

２０１６年１月２１（木）札幌グランドホテル(福の間・西）において，「さっぽろ人形浄瑠璃芝居あしり坐」代表 矢吹英孝をお迎えしての新年祝賀会（新春音楽会）が行われた。 ８０名の参加者も新春にふさわしい日本古来の伝統舞踊と劇に感動。特に
笑いあり，涙ありの江戸時代の近松門左衛門の「東海道中膝栗毛」等の作品等を大いに楽しんだ。最後には人形を操つるレッスンとデモントレーションの場と機会が提供された。
On January 21(Thu) 2016 at Sapporo Grand Hotel, the AJSH's a New Year event in celebration of the 2016 was held. Sapporo's
well-famous Joruri Puppet group "Sapporo Ningyo Joruri Sibai Asbiri-za"
led by Hidetaka Yabuki put on a superb show. "Joruri "--a form
of dramatic narrative chanting to Japanese banjo "shamisen" accompaniment---developed
during Edo period. The participants made up of 80 were enchanted by the
marvelous Joruri puppet show--which included "Tokai Dohchu Hizakurige"by
Monzaemon Cikamatsu . The lessons on how to manupulate puppets and the
puppeetier demonstalation period were also given.
2016年 3 月17日京王プラザホテル「雅の間」にジャスティン・トール新領事（総務・経済・領事部担当をお招きし講演を開催した。トール領事は，元空軍の名パイロットとして活躍，その後は外交官としても目下活躍中である。世界中を飛び待ったパイロット時代は地上一万フィートで飛行機内の器械と共に仕事に取り組んでいたが，現在は地上一フィートで器械ではなく，多くの外交を含む人的交流の仕事に取り組んでおられ，それらの経験を基に日米の文化比較からアジアの安全保障に関してジョークを交えながらお話し下さった。
On March 17,2016 at Keio Plaza Hotel, Sapporo, new Consul Justin Tull---who
arrived at Sapporo with his wife and two daughters---made a wonderful presentation on a new look at the Aia-Pacific Region in conjunction with American and Japanese cultures. Mr.Tull shared his experience as an Air Force pilot (30,000’ level) and diplomat (3’ level) and discussed how different points of view influence our understanding
of the world around us. He also related his experiences to the importance
of having a long-term vision and how important our daily efforts are in
achieving long-term goals. The audience gained new knowledge on the role
Mr. Tull has played in different fields.
2016年5月12日（木）札幌グランドホテル「玉葉の間」にて2016年度の総会が開催された。総会の前半には北海道インターナショナル(HIS)のジャスバンドHIS Jazz Bandが名演奏を披露し73名の参加者を魅了し，アンコール曲で会場が盛り上がった。総会では伊藤義郎会長，加森公人副会長，小池善明副会長，藤田道子副会長が再任され，専務理事には御手洗昭治専務が再指名された。新理事には吉田茂幹事，また新幹事には石垣靖子会員が任命された（理事29名，監事2名。8名の運営理事が指名された。なお6月2日に開催された理事会で部会の実行委員長には布施正樹理事が選ばれた。）
On May 12, 2016(in Rm. Gyokuyo at Sapporo Grand Hotel), the General Assmbly
2016 was held, and Mr. Yoshiro Ito was named President of the AJSH for
the next term. Mr. Kimito Kamori, Mr. Yoshiaki Koike, and Mrs. Michiko
Fujita were reelected as Vice Presidents. Mr. Shoji Mitarai was reappointed
Executive Director. Mr. Shigeru Yoshida was elected to become a new Board
member, and Mrs. Yasuko Ishigaki was nominated for an auditor. Prior to
the General Assembly, the Jazz Band of Hokkaido International School put
on a wonderful show playing for the audience famous Jazz music and Soft
Rock music numbers.
2016年 7月28日（木）札幌パークホテル（パークテラス）において，元札幌アメリカンセンター館長・東京米国大使館公使，現在Amway政府・渉外ディレクターのマーク・デービッド氏（米国マサチューセッツ州出身）を迎えてのイブニング・レセプション講演会が開催された。 今回，同伴された奥様のクニコ夫人とは20年ぶりの来道となった。講演「日米交流新時代：相互の強化と繁栄を目指して」では，グローバル時代における日本と北海道における次世代の人材育成のあり方，それに関連する北海道日米協会役割について流暢な日本語で力説された。
On July 28,2016 at Park Terrace in Sapporo Park Hotel, the AHSH invited
Mr. Mark Davidson, the former Director of American Center, Sapporo and
former Minister at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and currently , Director of
Government & External Affairs. His talk entitled "U.S.-Japan Exchange---Building
a Strong and Prosperous Future" was warmly
accepted by the audience. As Mrs. Kuniko Davidson also accompanied him,
they had an occasion to reencounter and meet their old friends and acquaintances
for the first time 20 years.
9月15日，グランドホテル 「玉葉の間」にセイコーマートで知られる丸谷智保Secoma（セコマ）代表取締役社長をお迎えして
「米国との取引先とSecomaの輸出戦略」について講演会を開催した。丸谷社長は，アメリカの銀行勤務経験もある関係上
，アメリカのビジネス・モデルにも精通した企業家でもある。 また，セコマはアメリカにある７つの企業と業務提携をしており，北海道の食文化を実り豊かなものにして下さっている。今回の丸谷社長の講演内容は，今後の食糧基地としての北海道，それに未来の北海道のた海道の農業のあり方を考える絶好の機会の場を参加者に与えて頂いたものと言える。
On September 15,at Grand Hotel, Mr. Tomoyasu Marutani, President of SECOMA
made a fascinating presentation on SECOMA's business strategies with American
partners. Mr. Marutani is quite familiar with the United
States through his working experiences at an American bank. He looks for
top quality products made in U.S.A.
2016年11月 13日（日）札幌国際ビル内「国際ホール」にて，ジャパン・タイムズのエリック・ジョンストン次長をメインゲストに招き，第２回目の「国際ユース・フォーラム札幌が行われた。共催は北海道国際交流・協力総合センター(HIECC)，後援は在札幌米国総領事館，協力は伊藤組100年記念基金。協賛は北海道コカコーラ（株），サッポロ・ビール（株），石屋製菓，（株）ロイズ.
講演のテーマは「あなたの日本を発見しよう～自分で探る異文化理解」。そのテーマを基に， 後半には，60数名で構成された高校，北海道インターナショナル・スクール，各大学からの大学生と４０名から成る日米関係会員と関係者らがグループ・デイスカッションを行い活発な意見交換がなされた。また，新たに就任された在札幌米国首席領事のレイチャル・ブルネットーチェン氏と外交官の御主人，ペリー・チェン氏もIYFにがく参加し，学生建と本協会会員・関係者らと意見交換を行った。 夕方に京王プラザ。ホテルで開催された歓迎レセプション・講演会で，ジョンストン氏は，今後の日米関係と今回のアメリカ大統領選挙について講演された。大変，新鮮で刺激のある内容の講演であった。
On November 13(Sun)"International Youth Forum(IYF) Sapporo 2016" was held at International(Kokusai) Hall in Sapporo Kokusai Building. The main guest speaker, Erick Johnston(Deputy
Manager of THE JAPAN TIMES) spoke on Finding Your Own Japan: A Do-It-Yourself
Guide To Cross-Cultural Understanding " and joined the group discussion
forum. The Youth group--a little over 60(made up of senior high school
students, students representing Hokkaido International School, and college
students) exchanged views on the challenges faced by new comers to Japan
and by the Japanese who go to the United States, including linguistic and
cultural challenges. Later at the Evening Reception held at Keio Plasa
Hotel, Mr. Johnston gave a short speech on future U.S.-Japan relations
and the Presidential election 2016. Nｅｗly arrived Principal Officer, Rachel
Brunette-Chen and her husband, Perry Chen also attended the IYF. They shared their views with stuends and other AJSH members.
The two events were co-sponsored by HIECC; supported by . The American
Consulate General; Ito Memorial Fundation; Hokkaido Coka Cola Bottling
Ltd. Sapporo Beer; Roys LtD,and Ishiya Confectionary Company.

２０１２年１月１９日（木）札幌グランドホテルの「玉葉の間」において，恒例の「新年スペシャル祝賀会＆演奏会：ザ・ダンディ・フォー＆とジョン・リース米国総領事のトロンボーン新春音楽会」が開催されました。伊藤義郎の新年の御挨拶とリース総領事のお言葉の後をそれにリース総領事の演奏が披露されました。音楽会の協力者、安斎勲氏らに対し感謝申し上げます。On
July 19, Mrs. Michiko Fujita made an arrangement and invited the Choir(male
Chorus group "Dandy Four" led by Mr.Anzai made a special apparrance
with Mr. John Ries as a torombone player. It was a perfect entertaiment
for 2012's New year's Cellebration.
３月２９日（木）には、博物館と郷土の歴史・文化に造形の深い土屋 周三氏をお迎えし、『アメリカと北海道の開拓』についての講演を開催しました。日米交流の歴史の一端を垣間見る機会でもありました。アメリカとの蒸気機関車を通した技術導入にも多くの参加者は強い印象を持たれたようです。
土屋氏は、道内はじめ海外の博物館（特にニュージーランド）での功績が認められ現在も活躍中である。Inviting a well-known curator
not only in Hokkaido but in some other countries, New Zealand,Mr. Shuzo
Tsuchiya, the AJSH aked him to make a presentation on America-Japan relations
and Americans who made contributions to the development of Hokkaido besides,
William S. Clark in the field of agriculture and industry. The stem locomotive
Benkei introduced by the American engineers struck the audience.
４月２９日（木）夕方6:00p.m.には、ビジネス交流部会の「ビジネス・フォーラム＆交流会」を米国弁護士の秋沢 伸哉氏（日本交渉学会副会長）をお招きし、ホテルガーデンパレス札幌４Ｆの「真珠の間」で開催しました。日・米・中の知的所有権、ブランド商品の商標権商用を巡っての紛争と紛争処理の方法について、示唆のある講演でした。特に、「クレヨンしんちゃん」を巡って日・中で８年間続いた法的紛争において、日本側の主張が中国側に認められ紛争が決着した事についても言及があり、参加者から「サバイバル・キットとしての交渉力の重要さを再認識させられた」との意見が多く寄せられました。On
April 29, the AJSH's Business Forum invited Mr. Shinya Akizawa, who practiced
law in the United States. Mr. Akizawa, Vice Chair of Japan Society for
International Negotiation, talked about how to prevent "Kureyon Shin-chan"
incident---which created a commotion betwen China and Japan as far as the
secrurity of the patent issues are concerned in international business.Mr.
Kimihiro Kamada,Mr. Hosokawa of the America Consulate General,Sapporo contributed
to the business forum and its interchange programs.
5月17日（木）の総会前の御餐会では、北海道インターナショナル・スクール(HIS)のコーラス合唱団が杉野先生のアレンジを基に、ザ・ビートルズのヒット曲「Hollo
Goodbye」その他の名曲をミュージカル風にアレンジし、披露して下さいました。なかなか力の入ったパフォーマンスでした。On May 17, HIS Choir contributed and made a marvellous
music performance led by Mr. Sugino. Their music performance was well received.
Their number "Hello Goodbye" was a happy addition. We want to
express our sincere thanks to our member and who is also on the AJSH Board,
Mr. Barry Ratzliff--Head Master of HIS.
７月１９日（木）の御餐会では、米コロンビア大学名誉教授で３月の東日本大震災後に日本国籍を取得し話題となっているドナルド・キーン先生をお招きして「二つの母国である日本とアメリカについて」語って頂いた。キーン先生の20年ぶりの来道とあって、108名の会員と同伴者が参加し、日本文学以外の「日本とアメリカの祖国と文化」の話に思いをはせていた。会場では、TBSのビューキャストが講演の録画撮りを行っていた。先生一行は、その後、洞爺湖へ出発された。なお、ーBS
TBSでは9月9日（日）7:00～9:00p.m.にキーン先生のドキュメントを放映する。
On July 19, Dr. Donald Keene, Professor Emeritus at Colombia Univeristy
and a naturalized citizen here in Japan, made a special lecture after a
lecture at Sapporo University on July 18. Dr. Keenes talks centered around
his life betwen America and Japan. The lecture drew the largest number
of the AJSH audience this year. After the talk, Dr. Keene and his assistant
and a care taker, left for Lake Toya at the invitation of Mr. Kazuyuki
Ohkubo, The AJSH's member with his chauffeur.
9月12日（木）にはイブニング・レセプション「オータム・クールジャッズ・ナイト」のコンサートが行われ６０名の会員と知人、新会員が参加。先ず、伊藤 義郎会長のテキサス州ダラスで8月27日から8月28日に開催された日米間の「日米協会国際シンポジウム」の報告もあり、その後、ジョン・リース総領事率いる「Sapporo Tomodachi Jazz Quartet」のジャッズナンバーで秋にちなんだ「枯れ葉」から演奏が始まり「黒いオルフェ」、映画カサブランカの名曲「アズ・タイム・ゴ―ズバイ」が披露された(トロンボーンはジョン・リース、ベースは長沼 修、ピアノは高杉 良伸、ピアノ友情出演が小笠原はるの、ドラムスは御手洗昭治）。 後半は、Ｃ・ジャム・ブルース」、「Take the A Train」、アンコール曲「All of Me」が披露され、盛況の内にクール・ジャズ・ナイトは終了した。参加者の皆さんも伊藤会長、リース総領事、ベンソン領事らがリラックスした雰囲気のもとに歓談も楽しんでおられたのが印象的であった。 On September 12, Sapporo Tomodachi Jazz Quartet led by Mr. John Ries and his friends--Mr. Osamu Naganuma(Wood Base), Mr. N. Takasugi(Piano), Haruno Ogasawara(a guest pianist), and Shoji Mitarai on the drums played such famous jazz numbers as "Autumn Leaves", "C-Jam Blues,""Take the A Train, and "All of Me,"and etc.--which enchanted the audience, including Mr. Yoshiro Ito. The Cool Jazz Night event was warmly received.
11月２２日（木）の御餐会では、布施 正樹理事（白石観光取締役代表＆サーフィンズ代表、"札幌市民と北海道の農水産物を食する会代表"）の講演『ダラス視察と２０年ぶりのアメリカ』と題したがあり、今回アメリカに伊藤 義郎会長、藤田道子副会長、佐藤・御手洗営理事、布施理事、池田会員、荻（札幌国際プラザ）が８月２7日と28日に、テキサス州ダラスで開催された第８回日米協会国際シンポジウム（２９日のフォートワースで開催された日米草の根交流イベントの様子を報告。２０１４年度に札幌で開催される日米協会札幌・北海道国際シンポジウムに備えての報告会であり、会場かも大変参考になる講演という多くの声が聞こえた。また、伊藤義郎会長は、１１月１３日に藤田 道子副会長が、高橋はるみ知事より「北海道文化賞」を授与されたことを報告し藤田先生の功績を讃えた。
Mr. Masaki Fuse made a fine presentaion and report on Dallas Inaternational
Symposium of America-Japan Societies held in Dallas, Texas from August
27 through August 28--led by Mr. Yoshiro Ito as the AJSH's leader and accmpanied
by Vice Chair Michiko Fujita, Managind Director Mr.Nobuo Sato and Mr. Shoji
Mitarai, Director Masaki Fuse, Mr. Ttsuaki ikeda, AJSH member and Ms.Mariko
Ogi representing Sapporo International Plaza. Mrs. Ito also attended the
Symposium.Mr. Fuse also reported on his visit with Mr. Mitarai and Mr.
Ikedato 2012 U.S-Japan Grassroots Summit held in Fortworth in Texas. The
audience immensely emjoyed his presentation and attained a sense--how we
can prepare for 2014 International Symposium of America-Japan Society to
be held here in Sapporo,Hokkaido. In addition to Mr. Fuse's report. Additonally，Mr.Yoshiro
Ito announcd that Mrs. Michiko Fujita,Vice Chair, had been awarded "Cultural
Merit Award" by Governor of Hokkaido, Harumi Takahashi, on November
13.

２０１３ 年１月１７日（木）：新春を迎えて藤田 道子副会長の企画でダイナミックで超技巧でプロのカスタネット奏者の新貝裕司（札饗楽団）と札幌音楽家協会のヴァイオリニストの山本聖子さんとピアニストとして活躍されている森吉 亮江さんをお迎えしての新年音楽コンサートを開催しました。７０名近く集まった参加者達も、心揺さぶるカスタネット、ヴァイオリンそれにピアノによるタンゴ、クラシック、それにワルツなどの名曲にすっかり魅了された様子でした。For New Years Music Concert 2013(coordinated by Vice Chair Michiko Fujita), we invited three disnguished musicians, a well-known professional castanets' performer, Yuji Mr. Singai, a violinist, Seiko Yamamoto, and a pianist, Fusae Moriyoshi. They put on an extremely good show palying world famous music,including Tango and Walts. Every one of the auduence, made up of nearly 70 people, was enchanted by the fabulpus performance, and they enjoyed every minute of it.
2013年3月21日（木）国際ジャーナリストでジャパン・タイムズ次長（大坂支局）をお迎えし、現代の日本、日本の政治の動向、加えて北海道の未来についての講演会が開催されまた。ジョンストン紙は、ピッツバーグ大学卒業後、日本の毎日新聞社を経てジャパン・タイムズ次長として西日本の関西・沖縄のみならず日本、北海道（洞爺サミットに参加、利尻礼文島その他、道内各地も取材で訪問した経験の持ち主です。また世界のジャーナリストとも交流を続け、日本の現状（特に三陸沖地震、福島の原発処理方法）を欧米各紙にも記載し活躍を続けられておらます。北海道は、世界に向けたエネルギーのハブになる可能性を実証データーを持ち紹介。
Mr. Eric Johnston---who is a well-known international journalist working
for the Japan Times with a well chequered career---made a remarkable presentation
ranging from contemporary Japanese affairs, Japanese politics, and Hokkaido's
potentiality as an international base for various kinds of enegy resources
and the role Hokkaido can play not only as a hub of agriculture, but as
one of the energy tranport regions in the entire world. Johnstons's presentation
was warmly and well received. Mr. Johnsotn is also anxious to return to
Hokkaido to cover the 2014 International Symposium of America Japan Societies
in September 2014.
2013年 5月 16日（木Thu.）北海道インターナションル・スクール(HIS)の合唱団の演奏披露会と総会が開催されました。総会では新理事に戸部 謙一氏（日本食品製造[資]代表,大久保 和幸氏（医療法人譲仁会会長），また新運営委員には，布施 正樹氏（株式会社：サーフィンズ代表取締役）が就任されました。エンターテイメント部門では，杉野先生率いるHISの生徒さん達のエネルギシュなミュージック・パフォーマンスにを参加者はすっかり魅了されていた様子です。本協会の理事でもありHISのバリー・ラッツリフ校長には，この場を借りて，今回のご協力に対し御礼を申し上げます。On
May 16(Thu.) the General Assembly was held, and Mr. Kennichi Tobe( a company
President) , Mr. Kazuyuki, Chairman of Jyojin-kai Medical Ltd. were named
nedw Board of Trustees, and Mr. Masaki Fuse, was nominated asone of the
new Managing Directors. HIS students led by Mr. Sugino also gave a marvellous
and energetic music performance---which enchanted the audience to a considerable
degree. We want to thank Mr. Barry Ratzliff, Headmaster of HIS and on the
Board of Trustees of the AJSH for his cooperation.
2013年6月2日（日Sun) :ジョン・リース総領事が７月に次の駐在地に赴かれるため，これまでの道日米協会への貢献と感謝も込めたイブニング・レセプション「See
You Again Evening Reception Concert 」を5:30p.m.より「グランドホテル３Ｆ銀扉の間(Ginsen)
」で開催されました。今回は北海道マサチューセッツ協会とのジョイント・コンサートであり，同協会からから２３名の会員の皆様も参加下さり,総勢１０３名の皆様が
集いに参加下さいました。
リース総領事率いるジャズバンド「サッポロ・トモダチ・ジャズ・クィンテット(リース総領事・長沼修・高杉良伸・御手洗昭治）とメインのジャズ・バイオリンの江河美音さん，それに小笠原はるのさんもｂ加わり演奏。それに加えて，札響のコンサートマスターである大平まゆみさんのバイオリンによる飛び入り演奏，ダンディ・フォー，川手博史さんと南陽子さんも友情出演され，盛大の内にディナー・コンサートは終了しました。
Mr. John Ries,who has contributed a great deal to the development of the
Hokkaido Nichibei Kyokai(AJSH)--will be leaving Sapporo in July and be
stationed in another country. To pay his tribute, the AJSH held "See
You Again Evening Reception & Concert" led by John Ries &
the Sapporo Tomodachi Jazz Quartet on June 2(Sun) starting 5：:30 p.m. at
Gin'sen No Ma(the 3rd Fl.) at Sapporo Grand Hotel. 23 members from Hokkaido
Masachussetts Association also took part in the Joint Evening Dinner Concert
for the first time.
Sapporo Tomodachi Jazz Quartet led by John Ries, Osamu Naganuma, Yoshinobu
Takasugi, Shoji Mitarai along with guests Mio Egawa, a jazz violinist,
and Haruno Ogasawara，played famous jazz numbers. A big surprise occuered
when the sudden participation of Mayumi Ohira, a world-famous violininist
and the concert master of Sakkyo orchestra appeared on the stage started
play two famous numbers, the Dandy Four, Hiroshi bKawte, a jazz guitalist,
and Yomo Minami , a jazz singer also joined the event. Their appearance
and cntributions made the event more joyful one.
2013年 7月 18日（木Thu.)SEA国際研究所所長で本協会の理事の吉田茂氏の日本における英語教育と海外留学の課題と新たな取り組みについて講演をされた。特に国際社会におけるキャリア構築を目指すには？社会のニーズとしての海外留学の重要性，それにSEA内外のネットワークとプログラムについて，参加者にも質問を投げかけながらのプレゼンテーションであった。Mr.
Shigeru Yoshida, President and Director of School for Educational Alternatives
gave a talk on Be Different to Succeed "The Meaning of Studying Abroad
as a Social Needーーfrom Nihonjin to the Japanese--- covering a wide range
of issues in English Language training and teaching here in Japan, and
advocarted how to become globally oriented citizens and how we can attain
and increasse our language proficiency in English. In the question-answer
session, many paticipants had an opportunity to answere questions posed
by Mr. Yoshida and also had a chance to voice their opinions.
2013年９月１２日（木:Thu )「U.S.ビーフ・フェアー＆ハワイアン・ナイト」この日にはジョエレン・ゴーグ新主席領事とセオドー・デｨール新領事，加えて岡田 実北海道新聞社専務取締を迎えてのイブニング・レセプションが「パークホテル３F:エメラルドの間」で開催された。また，ハワイ米日協会との新しい関係樹立を記念し，西尾順子ハワイアン・スタジオのフラダンス・チームをお招きしてのパフォーマンスでジョエレン・ゴーグ新主席領事を歓迎。特に，幼稚園児，中・高生から大人，総勢３０名からなるフラダンスのアトラクションにはゴーグ主席領事はむろん，本会員や北海道マサチューセッツ協会の多くの会員からも「素晴らしいパフォーマンス」との感想が事務局にも届いた。また，ビーフを提供下さった会員の大金畜産の大金弘武社長と，ビールを提供下さった同じく会委員の札幌アサヒビールには，心から厚く御礼申し上げたい。On

held on September 12(Thu.) a"Emerald Room" in Sapporo Park Hotel.
Theodore Diehel, new Consul,together with Mr. Minoru Okada,Deputy Senior
Director of the Hokkaido Newspaper also attended the reception.
One thing which sparked the interst of the audience was the remarkable
show time performence done by Sapporo's Hawaiian Hula dance studio team
led by Junko Nishio. Particlarly, we were,including memebers of the Hokkaido
Massachusetts Society, were encahted by the splended performance demonstrated
by the Hawaiian Hula dance team made up by 30 dancers--ranging in age from
kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and senior high students along with
ladies. Our special thanks also should go to Mr. Ogane,President of Ogane
Meat Industry and President of Sapporo Asahi Beer Company who donated Beef
and Asahi Beer for the Evening Reception.Mr.Matsue,Vice President of Hokkaido
Mass Socaiety gave a few words to wrap up the evening reception.
２０１３年１０月２３日（水Wed.）「藤崎一郎 全国日本日米協会連合会会長・前駐米日本大使をお迎えしての歓迎講演会」 当日は臨時例会として北海道マサチューセッツ協会と道HIECCとの共同企画として，藤崎一郎 全国日米協会連合会会長・前駐米日本大使をお迎えしての歓迎夕食会を開催。夕食前の講演では，国際情勢について大使時代の経験やエピソードを織り交ぜたユーモア溢れるお話を参加者は伺える機会ｔがあった。また，これからの日米関係の強化，日本各地にある日米協会の活性化についても力説された。特に今後の日米協会の発展には若者や若い会員も参加できる企画やプログラムが必要であるとの指摘をされた。また，来年札幌・北海道で開催される日米国際シンポジウムにも大きな期待を寄せておられた。新駐日米国大使であるキャロライン・ケネディ氏をお呼びすることで協力下さいことについても言及された。Mr.
Ichiro Fujimori, newly elected Chairman of NAAJA and the former Japanese
Ambassador to the U.S.was an invited special guest for October Dinner---a
joint collaborative program with HIECC and Hokkaido Massachusetts Assocaitioon.
Mr Fujisaki's talk centered around international afffairs and International
Relations with reference to U.S.-Japan Relations. He also advocated the
importance of strong ties among members of America-Japan Societies existing
in Japan--how to revitalize their activities recruting young turks adn
young business entrepreneurs. His speech with a sense of humor struck many
participants. He has high hopes for the upcoming International Symposium
of America-Japan Assocaitions to be held next September here in Sapporo--inviting
new Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy.
２０１３年11月１４日（木Thu.) この日の午餐会には上出 利光会委員（北海道大学客員教授）をお迎えして『米国合衆国との５０年を振り返って』というテーマの講演が行われた。上出氏とアメリカとの関係は同氏が旭川高校から米国イリノイ州ブルーミントン高校へ留学した５０年前に遡ることになる。札幌医大を卒業後も免疫学の研究のために大学院に戻り，ジョンズホプキンズ大学に留学され，北大の遺伝子病制御研究所所長も務められた。上出氏は，高校留学時代文化ショックとアメリカの教育法，アメリカとの関わり，研究面における日米交流について大変興味深いプリゼンテーションをして下さった。Welcoming
Prof. Toshimitsu Uede，the November 14th luncheon meeting ,together with
a lecture forum was held at Sapporo Grand Hotel. Prof. Ueda's talk centered
around his first encounter with the United States as a high school exchange
student 50 years ago in Blueminton, Illinoi---a sister city of Asahikawa,
and his culture schock at an American educational environment. While as
a researcher, Prof. Uede had an opportunity to conduct research at John's
Hopkins University, MD, years ago, he still maintains his interpersonal
connections with American researchers. He once held Chair at Immunology
Research Center at Hokkaido University. The audience found his talk very
informative.
